Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS) is a creation of eminent academic people to provide high quality medical education in affordable cost to achieve the universal health care.The IMS is committed to provide the highest standard of education and training. It is planning to offer different levels of learning opportunity to empower the people from the different strata of the population.

Our Education Programmes

Objectives of the Institute of Medical Sciences are to provide training that will enable students to work in hospitals, long- term care facilities and to produce intellectual and professionally competent medical professionals. Our present courses are suitable for those looking to develop a new career in the field of allied health or who simply has an interest to get formal training in low level of health care. We understand better than most what our students’ requirements are.Students receive training that will enable them to work in hospitals,long-term care facilities, or other health care facilities. Our courses give special emphasis on improving the English knowledge and the IT skills of the students.

 

 

History of Medicine in Sri Lanka and the Green Memorial Hospital

Historical records suggest that in 1816 Rev Warren, an American missionary, although not a Doctor, dealt with the sick utilizing his rudimentary medical knowledge in Tellipallai. Dr Scudder was the first American doctor to come to Jaffna and ran clinics in Pandateruppu and Chavakacheri. Dr Scudder arrived in 1836 and started a clinic in Vadducottai.
