Our students from the Higher National Diploma in Nursing at the Institute of Medical Sciences, Green Memorial Hospital, Manipay, had an enriching and heartwarming experience during their visit to the Kaithady Elders Home.
The visit was a unique opportunity for our future healthcare heroes to connect with the elderly residents on a personal level. Throughout the day, the students engaged in a variety of activities designed to bring joy and foster a sense of community. They shared stories, played games, and participated in interactive sessions, creating an atmosphere filled with laughter and learning.
A standout moment of the visit was the diabetes awareness program conducted by the students. Recognizing the prevalence and impact of diabetes, the students prepared an informative session that covered essential aspects of managing and preventing this condition. They provided valuable insights on maintaining a healthy diet, the importance of regular exercise, and the need for consistent medical check-ups. The residents were not only receptive but also actively engaged, asking questions and sharing their experiences.
The visit was not only beneficial for the residents but also an invaluable experience for the students. It provided them with a chance to apply their theoretical knowledge in a real-world setting, enhancing their understanding of elder care and chronic disease management. The personal interactions and the gratitude expressed by the residents were profoundly moving, reinforcing the students’ commitment to their chosen profession.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in making this visit possible. The collaborative efforts of the Institute of Medical Sciences, the staff at Green Memorial Hospital, and the team at Kaithady Elders Home ensured that the day was memorable for all. Such initiatives exemplify the spirit of compassion and community service that is at the core of our nursing program.
Together, we are not just learning; we are making a tangible difference in the lives of others.
