Mr. Saravanamuttu (Kanesh) Kanesathasan

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Mr. Saravanamuttu Kanesathasan at the age of 96. He passed away peacefully at his home in Rockville, Maryland, on November 19, 2024.
Born in Tellipallai, Sri Lanka, as the third of seven children to Alagar and Annapuranam, Mr. Kanesathasan led a remarkable life of service, compassion, and dedication. He attended the University of Ceylon and worked at the Central Bank of Sri Lanka before marrying his beloved wife, Sarojadevy, in 1957. Together, they moved to Washington, D.C., where he embarked on a distinguished career with the International Monetary Fund.As early members of the Sri Lankan Tamil community in Bethesda, Mr. Kanesathasan and his wife became pillars of support for many. His life was marked by generosity, helping family and friends with problems big and small, and fostering a deep sense of community. He has four children, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
His legacy of philanthropy and commitment to education and healthcare is profound. In 2017, he supported the Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS) to initiate and sustain the Higher National Diploma in Nursing Programme for underprivileged youth, providing opportunities for a brighter future. His generosity continued through annual contributions. In 2022, he founded the Sathyarupa Charitable Trust in memory of his parents, Mr and Mrs Alagar Saravanamuttu, ensuring ongoing support for the nursing program and the Pediatric Neurodevelopment Clinic.
Mr. Kanesathasan’s unwavering dedication to community service and his contributions to the betterment of others will forever be remembered. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and all who knew and loved him. He will be profoundly missed, but his legacy will continue to inspire.
